i think they are trying to change everyones opinion on black male youths to a certain extent this is because they show how one black male tries to get away from the violence but is influenced by his friends as he feels that he should be there for his friends and they have been there for him.
i think it is society's fault that black male youths are represented in this way, this is because this is what society think of them and its what society want to see in films from black male youths. society does not want to see the other side to black male youths as this is not what they want to see. also as the authentic side of black male youth films is guns and crime it has become a main theme and people expect it from films with black male youths. all of this has been shown in bullet boy through the gun and violence and is showing the dangerous side to black male youths life. in the film it also shows how going to prison can change someone's life but because of the area that he lives in and because of society he goes back to his old ways.
in the article they talk about how white middle class people expect to see the dangerous side to black male youths this is because they want to feel better then them and to show their not as good as them. because society thinks like this black male youths are believed to actually have a life full of guns and crime.
