As a recap on Tuesday and especially for Jessica and Kylie, here is what we did.
We read an article about the marketing and distribution of CLOVERFIELD from the earliest point in it's campaign through to the developing 'word' about CLOVERFIELD 2.
The purpose of this was to investigate whether the film was in essence an example of:
a) a typical HOLYWOOD movie
b) a postmodern film
c) a post9/11 Hybrid movie
d) a synergy marketed film
In the class as well as reading the article, viewing the TEASER and TRAILER online the task set was to prepare persuasive speeches taking one of the stances above and argue why CLOVERFIELD is a prime example of a, b, c or d.
The speeches were good but not persuasive enough and the homework set for Friday is to prepare more detailed and conclusive speeches in an effort to 'win the debate' for your POV.
I am explecting everyone to have a go at preparing more detailed, referenced and persuasive arguments for the above. I am expecting comparison with other appropriate movie texts, use of theorists on genre - look at Adorno and Horkheimer for starters we will be looking at them further in class, application of SHEP and statistics used to back up your arguments.
As ever use IMDB, also try FACEBOOK and MYSPACE, explore any CLOVERFIELD dedicated sites and find out what the word on the sequel is.
