For Ms Thomas

Account for the view that the producers of reality TV shows exploit ordinary people.
Provide example from a range of programmes.

Reality TV shows are daily real experience of average people in contrived settings which can range from summer camps, or life on a desert island. Reality shows the live of real people in real situation. But is it really reality? This point has always been argued by the audience. So how do the producers of reality TV shows exploit ordinary people, well this is done by using many different techniques which the producers use to attract the audience attention.

Reality shows like Big brother exploit ordinary people very well by using techniques like hidden cameras, this allows us the audience to see the contestants do things without them knowing that we are watching them; this is a very affective way to attract the audience attention. A example of this is when two contestant from Big Brother 07 Channel and Ziggy where under the duvet at night, and the night vision camera captured there every move, it filmed them having sexual contact, which they obviously did not want to get filmed, and that then became a very interesting and very popular episode to watch.

Macintyre's main technique is hand held camera to exploit people; this is to make the audience feel as they are in the situation as well. As Macintyre explores crimes and tries to solve it, hand held camera techniques are very useful to exploit ordinary people. An example is when in Macintyre tries to run after the people who steels his phone, he tries to chase them with the camera some where hidden on his jacket, and when he runs, it gives it that affect, and make the audience feel that they are there, and imagine them self’s in that situation.

The Migraine theory works really well for the producers even in reality shows; they select scenes they want the audience to show. Such as on Big Brother where at 9'oclock programme on channel 4 is shown to the audience, that particular programme is full of entertainment, it is all edited and well structured to entertain the audience, and techniques like Narrator talking, interviews in a dairy room, and focused and organised camera angel are used to exploit the contestants personal lives.

(Sorry Mam, but I would not be able to make it to the after school session today, I have to catch up with my other lesson, but I am sending you my work, that I did for last session, Thank you, I'll see you tomorrow tc)
