The story follows Ricky who has just come out of prison and collected by his friend Wisdom. Straight away you can see that wisdom is a bad influence and tries to make himself know in the neighborhood.
The story continues with accidental shooting by his younger brother to his friend and the death of his friend wisdom. The BBC and film council are showing the downwards spiral of his actions and choices he has made.
Yet i think this is very exaggerated, there are never stories and the potential that young black males can achieve. This is not authentic of the whole representation of young black males, the media represent this stereotype in these kind of films. i do not think that the representation is fair.
They base this film in Hackney, east london. This is yet another stereotype of gun culture and represent this place as un- safe and dangerous. Is some ways this is true and the audience will relate and recognize this, however not all of Hackney is dangerous.
This film overall is showing how the character Ricky wants to change and change the opinion people have of him. In the film- his brother even takes the mick and says...'gonna work in Mc Donald's'. He knows that he needs to change for the better. This films is the journey he needs to make, but its too late.
