You have watched some texts: The Class, Elephant, and presumably many others during the last couple of years. You engage with the media as teenagers yourself and see youself represented on all platforms in a number of ways. begin some research into this topic by looking at shows specifically aimed at teenagers.
What platforms are used for this? Who makes these programmes? What does a teenage audience make of these programmes?
Using UKTRIBES as a starting point also explore the different stereotypying of teens. For whose benefit is this done?
Using hegemony as a means of analysing can we make any sense from this?
How is control maintained?

bbc switch is one programme which is aimed for teengers. this is a website which has a variety of different links where teenagers are able to do things which they are interested in. here they are able to listen to music, watch videos and watch a variety of different programmes which suit them. i believe that the bbc has decided to promote bbc switch on the internet because as it is a resource that teenagers are more likely to use. there are different sterotypes in teenagers and bbc switch has made it so that it suitable for all the different teenagers. all the different sterotypes are viewed in different ways depending on what they are like. the different sterotypes are shown on the UKTRIBE website. but i believe that these are not all the sterotypes as there are many people who may feel they do not fit into any of those categories. i personally feel that i do not fit into any of the categories on that website.
"Go with the flow", these words can summarise the stereotypes about the youth/teens.We are leaving in a world wherein everything changes. As technology/media evolves same as through with the teens from generations to the other.
One trend that can be observed with the youth is they are organised into groups or each and everyone is into 'cliques/clicks', such as what the UK tribes describes: indies, townies, trendies, smart urbans etc.
The teens or us are also the largest consumers of the new media due to the influence of mass media itself created by the institutions.
The Uk tribes was created by Crowd DNA,commissioned by Channel 4.
The website itself denotes their innovation and creativity that attracts the teenagers also known as the 'Youtube' generation. Also its accessible enough that its easy to use. These are one of the features of all the interactive sites such as facebook, bebo, myspace wherein most of the users were the teens.
These alone creates one of the stereotypes of youths which is PC world/tech group etc.
Analysing evrything and also considering Hegemony/media theory, one role of tribes/groups is to create stability and balance among them, wherein they could share and express freely their 'commoness' to one another.
But then again, not every youth are like into 'groupies', as they could be more than of the listed tribes.
Being one of the youth of this generation, I do not belong to any of the categories presented in the website.
A trend in society are streyotypes and organised into groups or each and everyone is into clicks, such as what the UK tribes describes: townies, trendies, smart urbans etc. Teens are biggest consumer of new media and get invloved and influence teh new media.
