Quiz shows are television programs which feature Questions, Answers and Rewards. Adorno and Horkheimer believe that media tests are produced in the same way as other goods and services in a capitalist economy. This means that all media texts are made and controlled by the capitalists who run our money. They are made by and for the capitalists who have only their own wellbeing on their mind anf production is all the same and standardised and the method of the production in always the same. Quiz shows rely on the prospects of “reward” to keep the audience contained and the participant on edge. This goes to show how the capitalists exploit the money lacking working class people and use “Questions” and “Answers” to keep the show together and the audience interested on “is he going to get the question right or not?”. This also exploits the working class and proves that capitalists, who are smart, wealthy and don’t need to prove anything, are controlling the media. Adorno and Horkheimer said the media is loaded with dominant ideologies which works to justify and naturalise social differences.

Hamza - some good connections to the theorists but this would also benefit from specific examples from the mdeia. we discussed 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' use it as an example of Adorno and Horkheimer in action. Whhat about 'Deal of No Deal'? what about 'Mastermind'? How do they vary/support/undermine the theory? Can a public state broadcaster like the BBC be guilty of what A dn H suggest?
