Unit 5
Paragraph 1
Nakamura is a very is common looking guy who is a former computer programmer for Yamagato Industries. His life seems very normal and simple, the proof of his typical life is shown in one of the clips of Heroes where Nakumara just discovers that he can change time, with excitement he gets up and there we see him in his work place. The extreme long shot of the office seems never ending. Everyone seems to have the same type of small offices. This is to show that he is just another ordinary person working away in a busy work place. The massage that the director is trying to show to the audience thought this shot is that he is just middle class working guy, who is special in his own way. This can allow the audience to allow them to relate to him, and feel that just by having a very common life style does not mean that they can not stand out and have no unique about them. This shot clearly shows how the busy and boring life of Nakamura and how he is trapped in a world which looks hard to get out of. His work place almost gives the feels of entrapment. It looks like he wants to escape from his work place which gives a very claustrophobic atmosphere. The director is also trying to convey a massage to the audience that being equal and working as the same stage as the majority of people do not mean that you have to fit with the crowed. There is always a chance to be different and to stand out, and this is exactly what Nakumara is doing in this clip, while everyone is doing their work, he jumps out of his chair with his arms and shouts "I did it" this shows that he is different in his own way and stands out in the crowd.
Paragraph 2
I believe that the reason for why the director represents Nakamura diffenert from the typical Hero is because he wants the audience to see a change. The audience of today have a fixed image of a Hero good looking. Tall, muscular everything a perfect man needs. Where as Nakamura he does not apply any of these conventional looks, but still appeals to the audience. Why, well I think that a hero like Nakamura allows the ordinary looking audience to relate to them self’s, as they can also feel special in a way. one of the reason for why the director broke the stereotype of a good looking Hero, so the audience can feel that changes are expectable and this can in a way influence people to have the confidence to make changes in them, and regardless to what they look, they should be able to do anything they want.
